Before I jump into the BEFORE pictures of our oldest daughter's bedroom, I need to confess to you that I am about to hyperventilate. Seriously, trying to complete our Master Bedroom Makeover, and now our daughter's 10th birthday room makeover, is about to send me to looney tunes land. Especially since I looked on the calendar today, and see that her birthday is about 2 weeks awayyyyyyy!!!!! Help me.
WHY, oh why don't I check things...like the CALENDAR...before I start on the Master Bedroom makeover??? We have been promising (my husband would say he had nothing to do with the promise) our daughter for a couple of years that she could re-do her room when she turned 10. At the time, it seemed so far off that we were safe for the time being. What happened to all that TIME BEING???
But, since I am a big girl, I am hiking up my pants real high, pushing up my sleeves, putting my hair in a ponytail and GEARING UP for a busy 2 weeks of planning, painting, and decorating.
So, with that nerdy mental picture of me in your minds, I am begging you for a little help. (Raise your hand if you're a good painter!) If you have any fun design ideas, please feel free to let me know in the comments. I admit that I need lots of help. My daughter is dead-set on a doo doo dark brown microsuede comforter. Dead-set, as in I have shown her EVERY single article of bedding at PB Teen and every other place in the universe, and nothing she sees comes even close to the twinkle in her eye for that dark brown mass of soft suede. Just the thought of that massive expanse of dark brown in my precious girly girl's room makes my stomach hurt. Where are the Tums? So, please help. *said in a pleading voice*
Without further adieu blabbing, here are the BEFORE pics:
I realize there is a lot of STUFF in her room. We work a lot on clearing things out, and figuring out what things are really treasures. She is constantly creating--which makes for lots of art treasures to keep... She also loves her accessories (girl after my own heart!), so I have plans to better organize the hanging purses and multiple jewelry boxes on her dresser.
So, now for some of the new elements:
But, THESE are her favorites:
Paint color = the blue in the stripe (in a satin finish...to help reflect light, and keep the room light and airy feeling)
I'm thinking of the stripe for simple, long panel curtains (to the floor)--with some fun sheers in the middle (right now, her top pick is white with little white velvet polka dots).
The leaf/vine for the hope chest cushion--with either stripe or small polka dots for piping.
Decorative pillows--stripe in a bolster? paisley polka dot square pillow?
Here is a cute set of sheets I found, and a YUMMY soft throw blanket
Well, it might be a doo doo brown comforter, but those sheets--they just make me smiley happy!!!
Brace yourself...here's the comforter...
And--help me--HOW can we EMBELLISH the pillow shams? I have looked everywhere, and cannot find pillow shams (sold separately) that would match our colors. So what can we do to help these poor little shams?
CONCLUSION:
1. What do you think so far? Do you like the fabric swatches? Color for the wall?
2. How to embellish /fancy up the pillow shams?
3. I had a thought...Since the comforter is box quilted, what do you think of adding some embellishments to a couple of the intersecting lines...like some big bright blue and lime green buttons? Not a ton of buttons, maybe 8 total? Just something to break up the brown, and make it feel a bit more whimsical?
4. So, WHO wants to MOVE IN WITH ME and help???? You think I'm kidding? I have a nice guest bedroom, and I will cook lovely food for you...especially if you just do it all FOR ME. Oh well...I just had to ask..... Ya'll go on and be selfish, living your OWN lives.... While I wither away here....
Okay, now that this is done, I am going to eat some ice cream. Out of the carton! That will make me feel all better!!!! (You think I'm kidding, don't you? A girl never kids about ice cream.)
Have a lovely weekend, friends! Ya'll know I'm kidding (a little bit) with all the drama. We are gonna make it through this project...Together, right?
