Today's title reminds me to tell you a little known fact about me... My sister and I can sing every single word of every single song from The Sound of Music. I know, it's a staggering talent. We especially enjoy entertaining our children and husbands on long car trips, or in a hotel room somewhere, once everything is dark and quiet. We just love to belt out the songs--complete with the same accent / tone from the movie. Since we were traveling together recently on my Surprise Birthday Trip--with 4 of my friends--in an enclosed mini van on a looooong drive to Dallas, we decided spontaneously to treat those friends to a mini Sound of Music concert. It was a heartwarming moment. At least for my sister and me. My friends, well, they pretended to think it was cute for about the first 5 songs.
If you were sitting here beside me right now, I would TOTALLY sing My Favorite Things for you. It wouldn't be quite the same, since my sister isn't here too... But, if we're just dreaming up scenarios, let's just have you AND my sister here--cause we would sing our socks off for you.
In lieu of the beautiful singing, I will just TELL you a couple of my New! Favorite Things!!!
Little Miss Matched Socks- Aren't these the cutest things, so cute you want to cry??? A dear friend gave them to me this weekend as a belated birthday present, and I didn't know whether to squeal or cry. I think Little Miss Matched socks are the darlingest things ever. Women over 40 can still wear these, can't they? Oh please say yes, because it would make me so sad not to wear them. Oh, and look how they're packaged! I might have to re-think our Master Bedroom Makeover design to incorporate this sock bin...
Here is a shot of me wearing my first-ever pair of Miss Matched socks. Let me warn you--the picture turned out kind of creepy, in that you can see my toes. If you have a weak stomach, just scroll on past.
Speaking of the Master Beddroom Makeover on a Shoestring Budget...For the past 2 days I have been painting one of our nightstands a creamy white. Oh, I can't WAIT to show you the AFTER pictures!!! But, I want the paint to get good and dry before I put on the new hardware and move it into place. I just HAVE to tell you about the paint I used. It is the dreamiest dreamy paint EVER. I don't mean to be overly dramatic, but this paint glides on like silk. And when it dries! Heavens--it leaves the smoothest, buttery finish. The whole time I was brushing on the pearly silk paint, all I could think of was, "Respect the paint." Where is that from? I am such a sucker for advertising campaigns.
For my project, I used a Benjamin Moore primer, and the Oh-So-Perfect! Satin Impervo Enamel for the topcoat. I owe it all to my brilliant Uncle George, who suggested I use this same paint when painting our kitchen cabinets. He was not kidding around when he told me this was the best paint he's found. The color I used is actually called "Pastel Base"--which is just a fancy way of saying "creamy white."
My final Favorite Thing for today is a movie night with friends--including a CAKE in the car afterwards!!! Oh yes--since we were planning to see Alice in Wonderland together, my friend decided we needed a tea party afterwards. How perfect is that? And even more perfect--she brought A Very Merry Un-Birthday Cake as part of that tea party!
Since the movie ended at 11:30 PM, we decided just to have our tea party in the CAR. We're fancy, I know. How do you cut and eat a cake in the car, you ask? Here's how:
How much did we eat? Let me remind you that there were 3 of us... (And, NO, I'm not telling you what area I ate. That's just rude to ask!!!)
Ugh, I don't feel so good now... I think I need to go lie down from a sugar overdose...
Before I go, I'd like to leave you with a little song to dance around in your head today. Such a happy little ditty...
