Originally, I thought Thursday Thirteen sounded much catchier...but the thought of coming up with, you know, 13 ideas seemed a little overwhelming (Plus, you know I cannot say anything quickly--even though I AM trying--so 13 things would take you like half the day to read). And since I am on a Simplify Campaign, I figure Thursday's Three is good enough.
So, in honor of all things 3...
1. PURGE - Again, as part of my Simplify Campaign (wonder if I should get a slogan and some artwork for that??? Let me know if you have any ideas) on my list this week was to PURGE my closet. Yes, purge as in vomit up all the stuff I don't need. If I didn't wear something this last season, bye bye.
Now, that all sounds good (except for the vomiting part) and easy...but, honestly, why is it hard to let go of some items? I promise, I am not a hoarder at all, but for some of my nicer items (like a good basic black skirt that is only a little too tight), I really struggle getting rid of them. Since I don't have an unlimited clothing budget (oh, how wonderful would that be???) sometimes I hang on to those good basic items...just in case I might need them in the future. I mean, I'm only 5 lbs. (or 10) away from the black skirt fitting again...
But, like the rule follower that I am, the basic black skirt is in the Get Rid of Stack (GROS)
Do you see that green shirt on top? I LOVE the color of it just as much as I did in the store when I HAD to have it. I struggle getting rid of it--even though it makes me look like a fat gypsy (no offense to the gypsies). I just love the color so much. The color has brought me such happiness these past 3 years, as I have admired it upon its hanger.
But, again, rule follower me put it in The Stack.
Do you struggle like this in getting rid of clothing? And, what are your rules for the GROS stack?
1A. Now, don't get all freaked out...because there will NOT be a 1B... But, I just HAVE to show you what was lined up on my pillows while I was trying to make my GROS stacks at the foot of my bed:
It's hard to concentrate on a task when my covers are all giggling and shaking. Boy, it sure looks like Vader Bear has gone and gotten himself hitched. Way to go, tough guy! And doesn't Mrs. Vader look all pleased as punch with herself? Finally got the dark guy to settle down.
2. CELEBRATE- How did you celebrate St. Patrick's Day? My youngest and I picked up my oldest daughter from school today, and celebrated 3 things!!! The start of her Spring Break, a GREAT report card, and St. Patty. Where did we do this fancy celebrating? Why, Chick-fil-A! (Poor Daddy...had to work tonight...) My youngest daughter had been really patient with a lot of errands earlier in the day, so she got to run off steam on the indoor playground to her heart's content. She also made about 5 new friends playing, none of whom she asked for a name. My older daughter and I just sat across from each other, chatting about the day, eating our waffle fries down to the smallest crumbs, and sometimes being silent. I can hardly believe she has outgrown the playground, and prefers to visit with her mom instead. I sure want to treasure up moments like these, and tuck them away. (Not the food wrappers--I threw them in the trash.)
3. READY-SET-GO!!!- Today was the day I officially started making purchases for our oldest's Room Makeover in honor of her 10th birthday. When she was a toddler, I got to choose the pastel colors of her room to my heart's content. Now, it is time for HER to do the designing and choosing. (Scares me a tad!) This will be her "big girl" room until she graduates.
Tomorrow I really hope to lay out all of the chosen fabric swatches, and the bedding I have purchased so far, and take some pics. Please please stop by tomorrow and offer opinions and advice. (But, please do it as Emily Post always addresses her readers--"Gentle Reader." I love that! So, please be gentle readers and gentle commenters...cause if you don't I will karate chop you. Hai-YA!)
I have no idea why I said that...but it sure was fun saying it. I think I'll say it again:
Be nice or I will karate chop you.
