I got to have a rare night out with a dear friend last night, and as we were chatting a mile a minute, at one point the subject of our blogs came up. Okay, so it came up and came up and came up. I'm a little obsessed, okay? I admit. And admitting is half the problem, right? Being so new at this, I just have so many questions for experienced bloggers like my friend Carissa.
Oh, but back to the point! As we were chatting about our evening, and as Carissa took pictures at each point of the evening (just as she always does), we giggled and both came to the conclusion, "You know what tonight is? It's a BLOG POST!!!"
Carissa thought it would be really fun to have Dueling Blog Posts where we both wrote about the same evening and linked up to each other. Sounds fun to me! So, let's have at it!
But FIRST! Our theme song...
How to have a night out with a dear friend:
1. Pick up the friend who hates to drive...in a sweet stylin' mini van, oh yeah.
2. Receive a call from Dawn--another dear friend in town, whose son was being rushed to the Emergency Room for an eye injury in a baseball game. Evidently, the double play was going to be AMAZING...if it weren't for the stinking sun blocking his vision... But, THANK GOODNESS for sunglasses--which SAVED his eye!!!
3. Rush to Cold Stone to pick up a Strawberry Banana Smoothie for the brave, young baseball player in the ER. Because, of course Cold Stone makes everything better!
4. Head to the Emergency Room to deliver the Smoothie to Dawn's son.
5. We're smiling, because we've been to see Zac, and he was being SUCH a brave patient! Want to see for yourself?
6. Oh, look! It's my DAD!!! (a doc, but not Zac's doc) Checking out Zac's eye! I love living in a town with my parents...who treat my dear friends and their kids like their own. Smile.
7. See? THAT'S why we're smiling! Zac is going to be okay. So is his sweet mama Dawn.
Okay, we're also giggling because as we were walking out, and as Carissa was reaching for her camera (I knew a pic was coming)...we saw a young mama walking very quickly into the ER with her half-naked baby, wrapped in a blanket. I told Carissa, "You are NOT asking that mom to take our picture!!!" (Yeah, she's not shy about asking strangers to take our picture...or even talking strangers INTO taking our pictures, when they non-verbally indicate they'd rather not...) We got all giggly about the idea of us telling the young mama we'd hold her baby if she wouldn't mind snapping our picture real quick... Of course we just smiled at the mama, and went about our own business.
8. Now...on to dinner...where to eat? Where to eat? Somewhere close--we're STARVING!
9. How about some beautiful THAI food? Yes, please! This part of the evening should be entitled: Catching Up on Everything... or...MarytheKay eats so much beautiful food that she feels way too full....
What? Oh, you want to know about the food? The top one (mine, all mine!) is something-something Sweet and Sour Chicken--added: with spicy to a level 3 (I always feel so cool when I add that level 3 spicy part!)
The bottom one (Carissa's) was blah blah blah Asparagus with Peanut Sauce (the only part I either heard, or understood...maybe there was a "pad" and a "tie" in there somewhere) I DID understand, however, that it was VERY YUMMY in my tummy tummy!!
10. This picture to me says, "Wow, I am very full, and also relieved Carissa did NOT ask that man to take our picture who she SAYS is famous, but I don't really believe her because when she tells me what he is famous for I don't understand and she gives up because I am totally inept in the song lyrics department and I miss every single one of her jokes and one-liners that pertain to song lyrics and she gets frustrated about that." All clear?
I'm actually really relieved right here, because we have made it out of the restaurant without having to take our picture with SUPPOSED Famous Man, and probably having to chat with him and act excited to be seeing him--when in reality I still don't think he's famous, and probably having to ask for his autograph, too.
But, Carissa had mercy on my soul...and my inner shy person.
11. This picture says to me: "Carissa SURE looks suspiciously like someone has just FLIRTED WITH HER at Best Buy."
This picture also says:"MarytheKay looks like she DID NOT get flirted with, but she's okay with that because unbeknownst to Carissa, the FLIRT-ER told MarytheKay that HER Droid phone BEATS Carissa's iPhone!! (Well, he didn't know I was comparing my phone to Carissa's...because I am quite sure he would have voted for HER PHONE, TOO.) Who Hoo--go Droid Phone Users of America!!!
And, those, my friends, are the TOP 11 Ways to Have a Fun Night Out With a Dear Friend. Next time, I think we'll leave out Points 2-7 (and save Zac the ER visit), and then we'd just have the TOP 5 Ways, which seems a little easier to remember and emulate.
Honestly, though? I sure do love my friend Carissa. I am very grateful for her friendship. Times with her always range from the silly giggles to the deep conversations. That kind of friendship is good for the soul.
Now, go check out what she said about our evening...
What do you think? Anybody else out there want to do a Dueling Blog Post? I think it could be a fun new tradition!
