Well, hello, there! And, yes, I do know that it is Tuesday. I wanted to tell you about my weekend yesterday, but I was all hot and bothered to write about the Survivor Finale. Remember? I'm kind of like the show 24...this blog is in Real Time. And, that's a crying shame, too. Because that means that yours truly stays up waaaaay too late every night cranking out the wordage on the laptopage.
But, who is complaining? I loves it every bit. If I weren't up typing, I'd be up watching old episodes of The Gilmore Girls or reading a book from my 2-foot stack.
Ahem, but back on subject. I cannot let my mind wander or who knows WHERE we'd end up!
The weekend...was a delightful time. Since for some strange (OCD) reason I love the number 3, I would love to tell you 3 things about our weekend:
1. Remember that last week I made a whole batch of Killer Salsa for my favorite Redneck brother-in-law? Well, that brutha from anutha mutha--whom I love to call Leader, came to town to claim his presents. Why do I call him Leader when that is not even his name? Well, my sweet grandmother who lived to be 96 used to mispronounce some of the cutest words. Let's see...here are a few of my favorites...Once a year she would go get a Man-a-gram (mammogram). She just loved that monetary jack cheese (monterey jack). In Gram's honor our family now always calls it "Picatte" sauce (Picante sauce). And of course--her newest grandson-in-law was dubbed "Leader."
Leader was very happy to receive a new installment of Birthday Picatte sauce, aka Killer Salsa. Here he is enjoying some chocolate dipped strawberries for dessert. Please note that there are TWO plates of them in front of him...He was HOGGING all of the dessert, even if it was his birthday dessert. Selfish.
He looks like a pleasant sort of fella, doesn't he? Don't let looks fool you, though. He is a mean ole cuss that will make you watch hunting shows and Ultimate Fighting, and also he will make you watch bluegrass music on his iPhone that he has recorded earlier in the day. But, I guess since my sister seems to love him a whole lot, we all put up with him. Plus, he does make me laugh like a goober, so I guess I like him a little bit.
2. Another big event of the weekend was our oldest's piano recital. Other than the fact that I had worn a non-removable JACKET and the room was VERY HOT, it was a lovely recital. I knew the moment I put on the jacket, I would live to regret it. But, you know, when you lay something out the night before to wear to church, and you spend all your time helping your little darlings get ready for church first...then, there is no time to rummage through the closet to find Plan B. Do you ever wear jackets that are non-removable? You know--you wear a tank top underneath that you just KNOW you cannot and shall not remove the jacket, so help you God.
Well, I don't need to re-live here my Sunday clothing dilemma...cause I sure am tempted to...but, I will spare you the (very boring) details. Plus, we're talking about a PIANO RECITAL, right?
Isn't she a cutie? Okay, I will try to restrain myself from shameless bragging... But, seeing her there at the piano in a pretty dress just makes a mama smile. Plus, she really has a musical gift. And that makes me smile so big my face looks funny. This picture was actually during the practice beforehand...you know--before the room got really HOT and I couldn't remove my jacket?
Okay, so I'm an equal opportunity blog...so here's her little sister this weekend...making her daddy a peanut butter and brown sugar sandwich. Yes, I said brown sugar. I cannot take any credit whatsoever for that combination. My husband brought that idea into our marriage. It was his family's tradition growing up, and now he has taught our precious daughters this sinful combination. Heaven help our dental bills. But, what can a mama do when her daughters adore their daddy and everything he also adores?
Question: Who do you think cleaned up after the sandwich making? Do you think there was brown sugar EVERYWHERE? Oh, but she and her daddy enjoyed a delicious sandwich with a cold glass of milk. And for that, I guess I can clean up a little now and then.
3. What do you get when you find a last-minute babysitter on a Saturday afternoon when your favorite little sister and mom have some free time?
You get a Saturday matinee MOVIE, baby!!! There are few things my mom, sisters, and I love more than seeing a chick flick together. We rarely get a chance to do this--so Saturday was a REAL TREAT for us!
An even BETTER TREAT was finding a WONDERFUL MOVIE!!!
I really loved Letters to Juliet! It had everything I like in a movie...a happy, entertaining movie, thoughtful storyline, characters I could identify with, a beautiful setting, a love story... I am not sure it will win any critical awards--but it was a sweet, endearing little movie that the 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed!
Well, there you have it--my 3 things from the weekend! What made your weekend special? I sure would LOVE to hear about it!!! Seriously--I am LOVING reading your comments, and getting to know some of you!
Thank you from the bottom of my ever-lovin heart for stopping by.
