Today, I am going to show my great love of Wal-Mart. I guess first, I should let you know that Wal-Mart is not paying me in any way to send them some love. Oh, how I WISH they would! I'm not above accepting some payment in the form of deli meats and toilet paper. A girl's gotta eat and...well, you know.
I have loved Wal-Mart since 3 hometowns ago--when Wal-Mart was about the only store in town to do my one-stop shopping. I know that my town now does have a Target, and hallelujah for that, Amen. I am not saying my heart doesn't speed up just a bit as I enter Target's doors... but, I AM saying that since we don't have a Super Target here in my town, Wal-Mart is where I do my one-stop shopping.
And, as crazy and busy as my life can get sometimes...one-stop shopping is what I have time to do. Sometimes, it is just NICE to be able to remember a gift need while I'm already out grocery shopping, and hurriedly roll that cart to the right of the store, pick up a clever and thoughtful gift within 3 minutes flat!
Ha! That is called Grocery Shopping Gift Efficiency! Or GroShoGE (rhymes with corsage...And, no, I have absolutely no idea what the heck that really means...I'm just making it up as I go.)
Hence, my love of Wal-Mart. (Insert hearts and cupids here.)
Plus, I'm an Arkansas girl, and every time I see a pretty new line of products grace Wal-Mart's shelves, I do a little happy dance right there in the aisles for those Arkansas designers and buyers. GO Arkansas-people-who-design-stuff-real-good-and-I-want-to-buy-it-all!!! GO GO! Okay, so it doesn't cheer very well...but they know what I mean deep in my band nerd heart.
So, in honor of my love of Wal-Mart and her omniscient one-stop shopping, I would love to write some posts now and then bragging on some of the latest and greatest ideas I have found.
Whew! That was a lot of background info, to tell you that TODAY I'd love to show you some SUPER FUN and INEXPENSIVE Mother's Day gift ideas!
Three cheers for mothers!!!
(Three cheers for me!! Oh wait--this isn't about me, is it? My bad.)
I LOVE theme gifts that come all together neatly wrapped in that shiny cellophane with the curly ribbons hanging down. Don't you?
Here are 4 different Mother's Day gift ideas along those lines...
The first is for those moms who have green thumbs (not literally, though. That would be gross, and might just need the urgent help from a wound care doctor.)
One-stop shopping at Wal-Mart says head to the Garden Department for these gifts:
1. Flower pot
2. Seeds
3. Garden gloves
4. Seed & Suet block
5. Citronella candle (not pictured)
Place it all together in the pot, and wrap up with clear cellophane (sold in rolls, like wrapping paper--found in the silk plant aisle at my Wal-Mart.)
Wouldn't you be excited to receive this little package of Garden Love for Mom? If you would like to amp it up a little, you could always: Pick a larger flower pot, and stuff it with more goodies...garden tools like a trowel, more seeds, a small bird feeder, a brightly colored citronella tin (they're SO cute right now!), a Wal-Mart GIFT CARD to purchase some Spring flowers to plant! Or even a GIFT CARD from her FAVORITE NURSERY!!
Your mom doesn't have a green thumb? Well, hang on...there is something for everyone.
This next idea is something VERY SIMPLE. This is something I would take to a grandmother in a nursing home or assisted living--or someone with very limited space...or just someone who has everything, but needs just a little something bright and cheery from her loved ones.
Everyone needs a bright and cheery smile maker.
And, this made me smile when I first saw it. I found this little smile maker (and the stand) in the decorative wall hangings and picture frame aisle.
Are you smiling? I could easily see this flower plaque sitting on an end table or a night stand. A fun way to personalize it would be to buy a silver or white paint pen (or permanent marker), and have your children sign their names under the flower. Or--take a white notecard, and in large enough print to read easily, a personal note..."Grandma, this flower reminded me of your beautiful flower gardens. Happy Mother's Day! Much love, " Attach the notecard on the back with double-sided tape.
I could also see this sitting on a kitchen counter or on a shelf with dishes. Wouldn't this cheer you up as you grabbed a coffee cup?
Again--don't forget to wrap it up all pretty-like!
What about a mom who loves pretty things in her kitchen...or who loves tea time and cookies?
These aren't fancy items...but they're thoughtful, and useful. Oh, and don't forget pretty and inexpensive!
1. Better Homes floral platter (plastic)
2. Better Homes tea towel
3. Mainstays green and white striped towel
4. Better Homes dried peach small bowls
5. Mainstays Cranberry Mandarin candle (smells really wonderful!!)
6. Her favorite Pepperidge Farm cookies
7. Her favorite tea...this is Celestial Seasonings Fruit Tea Sampler
8. Her favorite Crystal Light tea...this is Green Tea Raspberry
Again, if you would like to amp this up a little...you could always add a gift card to her favorite tea room or Starbucks...or a manicure/pedicure gift certificate...Whatever suits her tea time fancy!
Wrap it all up, fancify the Tea Time Love:
Or, if your mom isn't the floral platter kind of gal, how about this gorgeous wooden platter and bowl? You could still give it with the tea time accessories... Or mix it up and fill it with goodies from the deli--yummy cheeses, summer sausage, fancy crackers, and a dip mix or two?
Aren't these gorgeous? I'm trying really hard not to just stick these in my cabinets real quick while nobody's looking... I might just not be able to live without them...
Oh, and the BEST part? Well, besides the Quick! One-stop shopping, and beautiful items...are the PRICES.
Here are the TOTALS for each gift (at least at my local Wal-Mart)
Garden Love = $11.89
Cheery Smile Maker = $6.47 (includes stand)
Tea Time Love = $13
Wood Not She Love These? = $11.93
Wow! What's not to love about pretty and thoughtful gifts for the mom you love so much???
I like to call that kind of one-stop, creative, inexpensive shopping...
Wal-Mart Love.
How about you?
