The other day someone wrote me a very kind message. She isn't someone who regularly corresponds with me, and she went out of her way to send the thoughtful message. Little did she know what a profound effect her small words had on me that day.
The day I received her message was a day that my soul felt hollow, and aching. I was sad, and feeling a little bit helpless.
When I received her gracious words, they felt like little snowflakes falling upon the dry grass, quiet and sparkling in the light.
The words quickly soothed and cooled. Their sparkling distracted me, and I found myself smiling as I drank in the life-giving, kind words.
The words that day were not grand, nor life-changing. They were a small thing.
But, for me that day, they were all I needed.
Thank you, friend, for reaching out with your kind words. May the kindness not stop with me. I pray that I will share The Small Thing with others around me. That they may, in return, feel the life-giving kindness.
That is my promise for today: I will offer a Small Thing to someone else.
How about you? Will you offer a Small Thing to someone today? Has someone given you a Small Thing recently?
May we never be too busy, or too hardened, to remember The Small Things are the most important things.
