Well, it's raining outside (again), and I am just not up to writing a cheerful! chattery! post. I think 3 things are contributing to this melancholy:
1. The rain, the RAIN!!!!
2. We had a garage sale all weekend.
3. I'm just tired. I'm ready freddy for a summer of no school, no days packed with activity.
Can any of you identify with me? Or...as a good old fashioned preacher would say, "Can I get an amen?"
By the way, does #2 in the list above puzzle anyone? I bet most people are very happy after a big garage sale. But, for some reason, garage sales just suck the ever-lovin' life out of me. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE clearing out stuff and I LOVE all the cashola at the end of a sale. But, the process of dragging out JUNK that I have stored all year, and artfully arranging it on tables--combined with watching people pilfer through it all day--it just saps the energy right out of me.
Also, I am very blessed to be married to a man who can work garage sale MAGIC. Seriously. It's funny how opposites attract. Nothing energizes my husband like the possibilities at a garage sale. At the end of a garage sale, everything leftover represents a price tag to him...of that item's value at a future garage sale. For me, everything left at a garage sale represents "How fast can I get it loaded up and dropped off at a thrift store?"
I wish you could have seen me on Saturday afternoon after our sale...when my husband said, "Let's load up a lot of this stuff to take to the thrift store." Those words were like music to my ears. I don't believe I have ever carried larger stacks of hanging clothes. And I'm sure I've never loaded a van FASTER. I was practically RUNNING things to the van. It made me giggle a little.
Now, to end this post on a positive note (because I am the eternal optimist, ya know), I will say that I do love one part of a garage sale. Okay, two--because I love the cash after! But, the other part I really love is all the friends that stop by. We got to have some really FUN visits with people we don't see very often. We even had some friends stop by from Kansas City (Shout out to Bob and Carol!!). We also got to spend some time getting to know our new neighbors. So, the fun visits almost made up for the painful garage sale.
Almost.
