Recently, Rebecca and I went to a Mother-Daughter event. During part of the event, the daughters split off from the moms, and talked about daughter-ish kind of stuff, I guess. One of the questions the leader asked the daughters...to get them thinking about their moms...was, "What is your mom's favorite song?"
And my sweet daughter? She told them her mama's favorite song is...Friends are Friends Forever by Michael W. Smith.
Uh-huh. She sure did.
Let's pause, and have a moment of silence for 1986. Michael W. Smith in his pink, blue, and white argyle sweater vest.
Let's also have a moment of silence for the put your arm around the shoulders of the person next to you, while swaying and singing along. And singing the chorus at the top of your lungs, while smiling at your best friend down the row.
Cause you know--friends are friends forever.
Come here--let me put my arm over your shoulder... Sing along with me:
I don't know WHY I thought that was so funny. I guess it sort of puts me in my proper "motherly place." The same way Becca put me in my "motherly place" another time recently while shopping.
Becca was trying on several spaghetti strap dresses, and little skirts. Now, Miss Plan Ahead Mama was thinking about the cool weather coming, and suggested a few times, "What about getting a little denim jacket to wear over that--for when it gets cooler?"
Becca kept giving me the little head shake and and the, "Nah."
Finally, after about the 4th time I asked her about a cute little denim jacket, she said: "Mom, denim jackets seem to be from the same time period when mullets were cool."
Well, okey dokey, I am officially now in the mullet and denim jacket classification.
As well as the Friends are Friends Forever classification.
In other words, I'm old.
Oh, but just so you know. Friends are Friends Forever is NOT my favorite song. Maybe in 1986 it was. But, now, I'm more of a Katy Perry, Lady GaGa, Snoop kind of a girl.
Okay, not really. Although I do really like talking like Snoop, fo shizzle.
No, my favorite song is probably pretty nerdy, and old-school. Or, more specifically, it leans more into the Classical/opera genre...So, yeah: Nerdy.
This is my current all-time favorite song. Please listen to it. For my sake... For the sake of denim jacket wearers everywhere...
Pure perfection. Don't you agree?
So...you know what I'm gonna ask...
